The UCL Department of Information Studies is an international centre for knowledge creation and transfer in the fields of librarianship, archives and records management, publishing, information science and digital humanities. It is the only department in the UK which brings together in one place programmes in library and information studies, information science, archives and records management, publishing, and digital humanities. Starting as the first British School of Librarianship in 1919, the department paved the way for other Higher Education institutions in Britain, leading training programmes for information professionals in an expanding job market. The success helped establishing its worldwide reputation, promoting professional standards that influenced information management practices worldwide through an international cohort of students.
Geographies of Information: Celebrating 100 years of Information Studies is an exhibition marking the centenary of UCL Department of Information Studies.
It charts the history of what was known as the School of Librarianship while exploring the role that teaching has played over the past decades in the creation of an international,
professional workforce.

About UCL

The university has been associated with research accomplishments throughout its history. One example is that a UCL professor won the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1904 for his discovery of noble gases, including neon gas.

The venue is located at the UCL Bloomsbury Campus in central London, close to the British Library, the British Museum and Euston Station.
Taviton street is next Gordon Square and Tavistock Square.
A reception is located at the entrance of the building and the room is accessible to wheelchair. The corridor outside the room(s) is sufficiently wide enough (150cm+) to allow wheelchair users to pass. There is not fixed furniture within the room(s). We understand that accommodation and hotel prices in central London can be a bit dear and challenging for your research budget. Located in central London close to the Victoria station, the hotel is very close to the Victoria underground line just three stops away from Warren Street.

Travel information
Travelling to UCL
UCL is located in the Bloomsbury district at the very centre of London. There are easy connections to UCL from London's airports and London's extensive public transport system is easy to use.
No matter where you are travelling from you will find that UCL is very well connected. We are located in Bloomsbury within walking distance of Euston, St Pancras and King’s Cross mainline stations (all within 15 minutes).
As there are no parking facilities on campus and parking in the wider area is neither free nor in great supply, we strongly recommend that you use public transport to get to us. See below for the many quick and affordable ways to travel that London has to offer.
London Underground (Tube): The closest Tube stations to UCL's Gower Street site are Euston Square (Hammersmith and City, Metropolitan and Circle lines), Warren Street (Northern and Victoria lines), Euston (Northern and Victoria lines) and Russell Square (Piccadilly line).

Bus: UCL's Gower Street site is served by many Transport for London bus routes.
Buses travelling from north to south stop in Gower Street, immediately outside UCL's main gate, while those travelling from south to north stop outside Warren Street station, about five minutes' walk from UCL. Services to these stops include route numbers: 10, 14, 24, 29, 73, 134, 390.

Eurostar: St Pancras station is the London Eurostar terminal. Just a short Underground or bus ride, or a few minutes' walk from UCL, this offers you direct high speed rail connections to Paris (2hrs 15 mins) and Brussels (1hr 50 mins), with onward connections to many European destinations. Coach: Coaches from London operate to most parts of the UK, many offering direct and very economical services.

Air: Below are directions to UCL from London's five main airports.
There are bus and taxi alternatives from each of the airports. Taxis will be expensive, possibly over £50. Use only registered metered taxis from taxi ranks and confirm the approximate price before starting the journey.
If you are planning to use the Underground for part of your journey, try to avoid the peak periods of 8-9am and 5-7pm. Also, please be prepared to carry your luggage up escalators.
